Lynn Sloan

(Evanston, IL)

Lynn Sloan’s photographs, from her collection Women in the Middle, examine mid-career, mid-life women writers in their working environments. Combining the writers’ words with her own images, Sloan demonstrates the many roles and commitments that these women take on to friends, family, and their larger communities.

Sloan, who attended both Northwestern University (BA, 1967) and the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology (MS, 1971), is currently a professor of photography at Columbia College Chicago. She has had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Chicago Center for Photography, as well as numerous other group and solo exhibitions. Her work is held in the permanent collections of several museums, including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Rockford Art Museum.
