Tom Rand

(b.1963; resides Chicago, IL)

Tom Rand’s series Quiet Light in a Solitary Place seeks out the subtle, the simple, and the elemental. The small black-and-white photographs present an intimate view of the forest, always searching out a quality of sunlight that strikes a contemplative mood. Whether the glow of an overcast day, the soft illumination of delicate foliage at dawn, or the sharply angled beams streaming between rows of strong vertical trunks, the light works in harmony with the landscape.

Rand’s photographs have been featured in solo exhibitions in Chicago at Bell Studio Gallery, Selmarie, August House Gallery, and ARC Gallery. They have also been published in Photographer’s Forum Magazine’s “The Best of Photography 2000”, the Northeastern Illinois University literary arts magazine Overtures 1989, and most recently as a Polaroid Artist Portfolio on the Polaroid web site.
