Silvia Malagrino

(b.1950 Argentina; resides Chicago, IL)

Part of her larger installation work Inscriptions in the War Zone, Silvia Malagrino’s above works mix factual and staged images, mimicking early forensic photography. Challenging common views about the validity of any documentation, the series includes photographs of combat and landscapes as well as clothing, skin, bone fragments, and body fluids.

Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Malagrino now lives and works in Chicago. Her most recent exhibitions include a solo multimedia installation at the Rochester Institute of Technology and New Faces and Other Recent Acquisitions at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her works are held in the collections of the National Museum of American Art; the Smithsonian Institution; the Art Institute of Chicago; and the Milwaukee Art Museum, among others. She is currently Associate Professor at The School of Art and Design of the University of Illinois, Chicago.
