Vince Leo

(b.1949; resides Minneapolis, MN)

I left to go to New York City for five years, and I came back and realized that nobody has a house like this. I thought it was normal, but I started realizing there was another culture present.  - Vince Leo

More than two decades ago, Vince Leo began photographing his Italian family in an extended project that was more about aesthetics than documentary. Now, three generations of the family have been documented, as the family-specific traditions have developed, shifting from religious to patriotic to cultural.

Currently the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Leo has received Bush, Jerome, and McKnight fellowships. His photographs were recently displayed in the exhibit Three Stories from Little America at the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts.
