Rebel Betty

(American, b. 1982; resides in Chicago, IL)

Amara "Rebel Betty" Martín is an AfroIndigenous Puerto Rican artist, educator, cultural worker, and activist from Chicago. Rebel is also a multidisciplinary artist who uses poetry and collage to depict the resistance music of the African Diaspora across the Caribbean oppressed communities. The goal of her work is to trace back ancestral forms of activism while documenting current practices of resistance. Her visual art, organizing, and cultural works focus on protecting the culture of black and brown communities through music, educational works, and works of poetry. Rebel has also served as an organizer, mentor and educator with Quennect 4 Gallery, Las Artelitas and the International Indigenous Youth Council Chicago.
