About the Photographer

Heron, Reginald

American, b. France 1932

Born in Marseille, France, Reginald Heron pursued his career as a photographer and educator in the United States. In 1970s he became the second professor of photography at Indiana University, Bloomington, joining Henry Holmes Smith, who was previously the sole instructor and founder of the graduate program. Despite the small scale, the program was influential, producing a number of graduates who went on to successful careers in the field of photography, including Van Deren Coke, Robert Fichter, Jerry Uelsman, and Jack Welpott. Heron is now Professor Emeritus at Indiana University.
