About the Photographer
Coburn, Daniel
American, b. 1976
Daniel Coburn’s Hereditary Estate series portrays stories from the artist’s troubled upbringing where he was surrounded by substance abuse and violence. Memories from the artist’s childhood—rarely captured in photographs—are re-enacted as a way to create a retrofitted family album as well as to address a larger, more visceral and universal experience: that of struggling with understanding one’s flawed family in the context of an idealized American experience. Daniel Coburn completed his BFA from Washburn University (2009) and his MFA from the University of New Mexico (2013). He is currently an Assistant Professor of Photo Media at the University of Kansas.
