About the Photographer
Jessica Labatte is a Chicago-based artist whose images investigate the capabilities of a two-dimensional frame and who explores and pushes the boundaries of the photographic medium. In her Almanac for Shade Gardeners series, Labatte arranges flowers from her garden in indexical still life arrangements, presenting each individual bloom through its cycle of life and death as a metaphor for the passage of time as a mother and within domestic spaces. Labette received her BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute and has been included in exhibitions at the Humble Art Foundation, the New Art Center, and the Hyde Park Art Center, among others.
