About the Photographer

Solis, Diana

Diana Solis is a Chicago-based photographer who explores biographical and fictional histories of Mexican and Chicano culture that include cautionary tales and oral traditions as communal experiences. Her pieces range from mixed media work and photographs to installations and sculptures. In more recent years, the artist has used digital photography to document changes in her neighborhood of Pilsen.

Solis holds a BFA in Photography from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has worked with the Chicago Park District and Museum of Contemporary Art as an artist-in-residence. Her work has been shown locally, nationally and globally in solo shows and group exhibitions alike including the Museo de Bellas Artes, Toluca, Mexico; Palacio de Gobierno, Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico; the Centre Civic Barceloneta, Barcelona, Spain; and in the Chicago area at Artemesia Gallery, ARC Gallery, the Aldo Castillo Gallery, the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Museum of Science and Industry, Noyes Cultural Art Center in Evanston, and Woman Made Gallery, among others.
