About the Photographer
Schaerer, Philipp
Swiss, b. 1972
Philipp Schaerer’s "Chicago" series (2017) is an abstract juxtaposition of architectural drawings and documentary photography. Each work is made of edited fragments of Chicago architecture composed of screenshots from Google Earth. The resulting images appear as flat geometric objects to showcase the weathered texture of Chicago architecture and are unrecognizable from their original forms. Schaerer’s work is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, NY; the Center for Art and Media Technology, Karlsruhe, Germany; and Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland.
