About the Photographer
Phillips, Bertrand D.
American, b. 1938
Based in Chicago, Bertrand D. Phillips was active as an artist in the 1970s. In addition to his work in painting and the graphic arts, Phillips also made black and white photographs. In the set of untitled gelatin silver prints held in the museum's collection, he isolates fragments of nude figures within dynamic, constructed studio environments that have a layered, collage-like sensibility.
