Fabrice Monteiro merges documentary photography and fashion photography to form a unique practice. Trained as an industrial engineer with experience working as a model, Monteiro pays intense attention to detail. The Prophecy (2014) series grapples with the impact of pollution in Dakar, Senegal. Working with fashion designer Doulsy, Monteiro creates larger than life, post-apocalyptic beings clad in handmade costumes that refer to jinns, ancient supernatural genies who are ravaged by environmental devastation. His work is held in the collections of the Seattle Art Museum; the Paris Hotel rive Gauche, France; and the TOTAL Foundation, Dakar, Senegal.
