Michael Kenna is known for his atmospheric black and white landscapes from around the world. Most of his photographs are taken at dawn or at night and involve the use of long exposures, sometimes up to several hours. Kenna’s clear, structured compositions center on the representation of landscape and the traces of human intervention. Kenna’s work has been included in numerous exhibitions around the world. His works are held in the permanent collections of Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA; Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Tokyo, Japan; and Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England; and Musée National d’Art Moderne, Paris, France; among others.
