About the Photographer
Ferris, Tom
American, b. 1959
Born and raised in New York City, Tom Ferris moved west in 1979. After living and working in Yellowstone National Park he settled in Bozeman, Montana, where he later received a BA in Photography from Montana State University (1994). Although Ferris has also photographed in Mexico and Ireland, he frequently concentrates on the regional landscapes of the West, particularly in Montana and Wyoming. In three photographs from the series Roadside Attractions, Ferris uses a pinhole camera to capture images of the weathered remnants of human constructions found beside Montana's frontage roads and highways, such as a run-down barn or a wind block made from irregular wooden boards.
