Callis, Jo Ann

American, b. 1940 Cincinnati, OH

Jo Ann Callis was born in Los Angeles, California and completed a BA and an MFA from the University of California at Los Angeles (1974, 1977). The 20/20 portfolio, published in 1985 by UCLA, gathered the work of twenty photographers who had completed the MFA photography program within the last twenty years. Callis was included along with Ellen Brooks, Gillian Brown, Jack Butler, Judy Coleman, Darryl J. Curran, John Divola, William Doherty, Sidney Doniger, Robbert Flick, Jeff Gates, Graham Howe, Paul Knotter, Victor Landweber, Kenneth McGowan, Philip Melnick, Patrick Nagatani, Karen O'Hearn, Pat O'Neill, Sheila Pinkel, Scott Rankin, Kenneth Shorr, and Elfie Wilkins-Nacht.
