About the Photographer

Beshty, Walead

Walead explores the abilities of photography to become a documentary tool, its relationship to reality, and the ways in which his objects acquire meaning through their circulation and placement in the world. Incorporating a multitude of processes and mediums, he is known for his large-scale photograms from series such as Pictures Made by My Hand with the Assistance of Light (2006), photographs of dead malls in America from American Passages (2001-2011), and his copper, steel, and FedEx sculptures.

Beshty has held many solo exhibitions at places such as Regen Projects, CA (2018); Institute of Fine Arts, NYU, (2015); Malmö Konsthall, Malmö (2011); Hishhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C. 2009); Thomas Dane Gallery, London (2014, 2022), among many others. His work is represented in the permanent collections of the Hammer Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and many others.
