About the Photographer

Berman, Zeke

American, b. 1951

Trained as a sculptor, Zeke Berman creates painstakingly fabricated arrangements for the camera. Using string, wood, clay, water, paper, and glass, he makes complicated still life images that resist clear-cut visual interpretation. By conflating the difference between what is seen by the eye and what is seen by the camera, Berman imaginatively challenges perception.

Zeke Berman’s work is held in many major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, NY; the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; the Guggenheim Museum, NY; the Art Institute of Chicago, IL; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among many others. Berman is the recipient of grants and fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the McDowell Colony, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the New York Foundation for the Arts.
