About the Photographer

Barnbaum, Bruce

American, b. 1943

Bruce Barnbaum completed a BA (1965) and an MA (1967) in mathematics from UCLA, during which time he pursued photography as a hobby. After working as a mathematical analyst and computer programmer for missile guidance systems, Barnbaum embarked on a full-time career as a photographer in 1970. Barnbaum has primarily devoted himself to black and white landscape photography and he states, "The unspeakable beauty, sheer power, and sublime tranquility of the natural environment is the reason I became a photographer thirty years ago." In addition to his activities as a photographer, Barnbaum is an active environmentalist, writer, and educator.
