Howe, Graham

Australian, b. 1950 Sydney

Born in Sydney, Australia, Graham Howe completed a Diploma in Art and Design at Prahran C.A.E. in Melbourne, Australia (1971). In the early 1970s Howe moved to London and assisted at the Photographer's Gallery and the Royal Photographic Society, and in 1973 he returned to Sydney to become the director of the Australia Center for Photography. Howe went to complete an MA and an MFA at the University of California, Los Angeles (1978, 1979). He is the founder and CEO of Curatorial Assistance, a company that provides exhibition support and art services, and the director of the estate of Edwardian Modernist photographer E.O. Hoppé.

The 20/20 portfolio, published in 1985 by the University of California, Los Angeles, gathered the work of twenty photographers who had completed the graduate photography program within the last twenty years. Howe was included along with Ellen Brooks, Gillian Brown, Jack Butler, Darryl Curran, Jo Ann Callis, Judy Coleman, Darryl J. Curran, William Doherty, Sidney Doniger, John Divola, Robbert Flick, Jeff Gates, Paul Knotter, Victor Landweber, Kenneth McGowan, Philip Melnick, Patrick Nagatani, Karen O'Hearn, Pat O'Neill, Sheila Pinkel, Scott Rankin, Kenneth Shorr, and Elfie Wilkins-Nacht.
